When the call for prayer sounds and the time has come for Muslims to stand in front of their God and worship Him, their focus should solely be on prayer. However, there are many different types of external distractions that occur that may distract one’s focus during prayer.
There are two main ideas as to why the mind maybe distracted by external surroundings during prayer.
- The prayer is not that important to you, so your mind will be focused on something else
- The prayer is important to you, but you are easily distracted by other things
To try to diminish these distractions, strengthen your belief in God to aid in keeping your mind focused during your time of worship. Also, remember that everything you have in this world is from God. When the Day of Judgment comes and it is time for you to stand in front of God, the first thing you will be questioned on are your prayers to Him and your focus during your prayers.
Not only do you want to keep your mind focused, you also want to make sure you plan your events around prayer. When planning a trip to the mall, going out to eat, or anything else, you must make sure that you can pray in a timely fashion. Do not plan something at the time of prayer and just let the fact that you are out keep you from your prayers. Certainly, there are things that are out of your control and God understands that. However, when you are the one planning something, keep your prayers in mind at all times.
